Sixty Years of Award-winning Lancashire Cheeses and Continued Success at the ICA

Dewlay Cheesemakers was founded in 1957 by George Kenyon, whose grandsons Nick and Richard – third generation cheesemakers - still run the business today from its home on the outskirts of Garstang in Lancashire. This means an incredible sixty years in the business for Dewlay, going from strength to strength thanks to a combination of innovation and respect for tradition. The Kenyons are keen to keep alive the traditional methods used by their father and grandfather - all their Lancashire cheese is produced using fresh pasteurised milk sourced directly from farms located within 6 miles of the Dewlay dairy, and uses their own unique starter culture developed on site more than 40 years ago.

Their respect for traditional methods means the production of some truly great cheeses which have scooped a number of accolades, not least in Nantwich at the International Cheese Awards. This summer’s prestigious prizes included The Farmhouse Cheesemakers Trophy for Lancashire and The David Dunn Memorial Trophy for Best Cheeseboard – as seen in this photo! Dewlay were so pleased with their winning entry they’ve teamed up with us this month to help one of you create your own cheesy masterpiece – the prize includes no fewer than SIX cheeses (Special Reserve Tasty Lancashire, Garstang Blue, Extra Mature Cheddar, Garstang White, Red Leicester, and new kid on the Dewlay block, Nicky Nook), some locally-made Bashall Barn chutney, crackers and a wooden cheeseboard. It’s a brilliant prize, and we’re grateful to our friends at Dewlay for continuing to provide us with such amazing giveaways!

To celebrate Dewlay’s success and our shiny new Facebook page, we’re giving one lucky winner the chance to put together their own award-winning cheeseboard as above. If you’re not lucky enough to win, you can visit the Dewlay cheeseshop in Garstang Lancashire (and if you time it right, see them hard at work making cheese) or browse their full range online. Dewlay cheese can also be purchased from most major supermarkets as well as many independent stockists.

There are two ways to enter and stand a chance of winning this amazing prize.
