May Competition – Win a Hamper from Dewlay Cheesemakers to Celebrate Their TV Fame!

When we ran a competition with Dewlay Cheesemakers back in November we were overwhelmed by the number of entries we received – so much so that, six months later, we’re doing it all over again!

Dewlay Cheesemakers was founded back in 1957 by George Kenyon, whose grandsons Nick and Richard still run the business today from its home on the outskirts of Garstang in Lancashire. As third generation cheesemakers, the Kenyons are keen to keep alive the traditional methods used by their father and grandfather - all their Lancashire cheese is produced using fresh pasteurised milk sourced directly from farms located within a 6 mile radius of the Dewlay dairy, and uses their own unique starter culture developed on site more than 40 years ago. Today the dairy employs approximately 75 staff and their cheese is supplied to retailers throughout the UK.

 

John Sergeant "Barges" into Dewlay

Dewlay are all set to feature in the latest ITV series of “Barging Around Britain with John Sergeant”, to be shown this Friday 6th May. John Sergeant, well known TV and Radio journalist and presenter, visited Dewlay while filming in the area for series 2 of his popular show which looks at the businesses that thrive near some of the country’s canal routes. While at Dewlay, John, who already knows the area very well, learned about the history of Lancashire cheese and why it’s so well loved all around the country, and tried his hand at some cheesemaking with the hard-working team at the dairy.

Nick Kenyon, Managing Director, commented “since we opened our cheese shop and purpose–built viewing gallery to the public, people have been coming from near and far to see how cheese is made. However it’s not often that the visitor is a well-known broadcaster, with a film crew behind him! It was a fantastic opportunity to show John what makes Lancashire cheese unique and to get him joining us in the dairy to try his hand at some cheesemaking.”
