May Competition – Win an Awesome Hamper from Orsom Cheese!

This month’s competition is a real treat, especially if you’ve never come across Orsom cheese before. Handmade in Cheshire, the Orsom family of cheeses was a revelation to me when I first tried them at the International Cheese Awards a couple of years ago, and was a real favourite with everyone at the show. Whilst the brand may be relatively new, the family business behind it is anything but – Joseph Heler has been making cheeses the traditional way since 1957, and combine a deep respect for their heritage with some exciting new flavours.

Celebrate Joseph Heler’s Sponsorship of the Trade Day Lunch

You may have seen us tweeting recently about the brilliant news that Joseph Heler has agreed to sponsor the Trade Day lunch at this year’s show on Tuesday 25th July. Lunch is one of the highlights of the ICA every year, when more than 1200 dairy professionals, producers and retailers sit down to enjoy a glass of fizz (or two) and a four-course meal, and await the announcement of this year’s Supreme Champion. We’re delighted that such a proud local firm, based in Nantwich and a great supporter of the show over the years, has offered their support.

The firm is now a third-generation family business managed by Mike and George Heler, son and grandson of the founder Joseph Heler, and is celebrating its 60-year anniversary in 2017. Orsom is one of the newer brands from the Joseph Heler dairy, and offers a range of innovative cheeses, each with their own individual personalities and all handmade at the dairy in Cheshire. Winston is a classic mature Cheddar, typically around 9 months old; Woodew is a tasty Cheddar smoked over cherry wood; Lester, the baby of the family despite being matured for over a year, is a sweet and nutty red cheese that I find quite ridiculously moreish; and Orsom Blue, which is matured in a specially-converted pig sty and is as awesome as it sounds.

Enter our Competition with Orsom Cheese

To celebrate Joseph Heler’s sponsorship of this year’s Trade Day lunch, we’re giving away an Orsom cheese hamper to one lucky person. This really is a brilliant chance to try the cheeses in the Orsom family, as the hamper contains two Winston cheeses, a Woodew and a Lester, as well as handmade chutney and crackers for the perfect accompaniment. If you’re not lucky enough to win, you can buy Orsom cheese from selected branches of Waitrose in the North West and Midlands, from farm shops and delis across Cheshire, or from their brilliant online store.

To be in with a chance of winning the Orsom cheese hamper, keep an eye on our Twitter feed (@iCheeseAwards) for one of the special competition tweets over the coming week, then simply retweet and make sure you’re following both us and @orsomcheese. Winner will be drawn at random at 8pm on Friday 2nd June – UK entrants only please. Good luck everyone!
