- Judging and Trade Day Tuesday 25th July 2017
- Show Day Wednesday 26th July 2017
So, it’s January again – the month paved with good intentions, when we all try to ignore the leftover Christmas goodies and apply ourselves to shifting that half a stone that has so mysteriously crept on in the last few weeks. Resolutions can be worth keeping though – mine is to try new cheeses that I haven’t had before, and I’m starting by heading up to the North East and the Northumberland Cheese Company, who have generously donated this month’s competition prize.
Artisan Cheesemakers since 1984
Based in Blagdon, the Northumberland Cheese Company was established in 1984 by Marc Robertson and initially made its name producing Redesdale sheep's cheese. Since then, the company has gone from strength to strength, and now a team of over 25 cheese enthusiasts work at The Cheese Farm making a range of delicious handmade cheeses. These include cheeses made from goat’s and sheep’s milk as well as cow’s, and all are made with vegetarian rennet, meaning there is something here for almost everyone. Keep an eye out for the Blagdon Blue, which is hand-crafted using traditional methods with milk from the local Blagdon Estate Dairy herd, and the Redesdale sheep’s milk that started everything off more than 30 years ago (and which was winning awards at the International Cheese Awards as far back as 2006).
Northumberland Cheese Company also make cheese wedding cakes and offer tours and tastings at the farm, which also boasts its own café and shop selling the very best in local produce. If you can’t make it up to the North East then the online store is a joy, offering hampers and gift packs as well as individually-wrapped cheese – see the full range on their website here. Or, you could have a go at winning some…
Win a North Tyne Gift Box with Northumberland Cheese Company
To help chase away those January blues and brighten up this cold, dark month, Northumberland Cheese Company are offering the chance for one lucky winner to receive a North Tyne Gift Box containing four wedges of cheese. Your box will contain the tongue-tingling Cheviot goat’s cheese, the velvety Redesdale, made from sheep’s milk, the rich Jersey milk Kielder, and Hadrian with its burst of caraway seed – all presented in a gift box (and if you can bring yourself to actually gift it, you’re a better person than I am).
To be in with a chance of winning this amazing prize, keep an eye on our Twitter feed (@iCheeseAwards) for one of the special competition tweets over the coming week, then simply retweet and make sure you’re following both us and @NlandCheese. Winner will be drawn at random at 8pm on Monday 23rd January - UK residents only please. Good luck everyone!
