International Cheese Awards Press Release February 2018: Spotlight on Last Year's Supreme Champion

Where is this year going? ICA2018 is now less than five months away, and it will soon be time to start entering your dairy produce for this year’s show. With this in mind, this month we celebrate last year’s winner and overall Supreme Champion 2017 – Papillon Revelation – and a worthy Reserve Supreme Champion from Arla Foods. Both cheeses exemplify the tremendous skill involved in producing prize-winning cheese from producers at the very top of their game.

Prize-winning Blue Cheese

2017 was another record-breaking year, with over 250 judges tasting 5685 entries and eventually crowning Papillon Revelation as the ICA Supreme Champion Cheese. The cheese received great feedback from the supreme judging panel, who commented that “Roquefort Papillon Revelation is a stunning product, combining a sharp, tangy ‘blue’ flavour with a creamy texture”.

Hervé Bourgeois, Export Manager at Papillon added, ‘We’re extremely proud to be the new holder of the prestigious National Westminster Cup with Revelation Roquefort and it’s an absolute honour to accept this outstanding accolade. Our cheesemakers have created a creamy textured product that’s characterised by its white to ivory paste and blue intense veins with cavities uniformly distributed from the centre to the rind, offering a subtle, less salty flavour’.

The Reserve Supreme Champion went to Arla Food’s Tuxford and Tebbutt for their Mature Stilton. The cheese received great feedback from the judging panel, and was one of two Tuxford & Tebbutt cheeses that made it through to the final judging table. Tuxford and Tebbutt are the longest-surviving producer of Stilton cheese and have been perfecting their art from the same creamery in Melton Mowbray since 1780. Tony Hayes, Site Manager at Tuxford and Tebbutt said, "We are passionate about our cheese and extremely proud to have been awarded the Reserve Supreme Champion trophy, along with the other accolades we received from the International Cheese Awards”.

The International Cheese Awards is a Registered Charity and our main aim is to showcase the very best cheese from the UK and Internationally and to promote Cheesemakers, Retailers, and Service Companies to the dairy products industry.
