International Cheese Awards Press Release August 2018: This Year’s Thank Yous!

On July 24thand 25th, this year’s International Cheese Awards took place in Nantwich, Cheshire, and – as usual – the show lived up to its proud status as the biggest and the best cheese show in the world. What you might not realise is the huge amount of work that goes into making the two days so brilliant – work that goes on all year round. So as is traditional at this time of year, we’d like to say thank you to EVERYONE who makes the show possible, including:

  • First and foremost, all the amazing dairy producers and retailers from across the world who entered this year’s show. This year’s total entries came to a staggering 5,183 from 29 different countries, with the title of Supreme Champion and winner of the Westminster Cup for 2018 going to Belton Farm for their Cheshire. Reserve Supreme Champion was awarded to Arla Foods Lockerbie, Overseas Supreme Champion went to Lustenberger und Durst, and Overseas Reserve Champion went to Clark Gemini International for their Gorgonzola. Well-deserved across the board.
  • All the major retailers, who continue to do such a good job in making great cheeses accessible and affordable. Supreme Retailer (presented to the retailer gaining most Gold Awards in the show) went to Morrisons for an amazing 29 Golds in the 96 retail classes.
  • Everyone who supported this year’s new Cheese Accompaniments Awards – after all, cheese is at its best with the right crackers and chutney!
  • All the producers, traders and suppliers who attended the show, and for showing endless patience in talking me through all their products. Some of you travel enormous distances to take part in the show, and we really do appreciate it.
  • Our sponsors, who make the show possible with their generosity and support, including Joseph Heler for once again sponsoring this year’s Trade Day lunch, and Nantwich Town Council for their new sponsorship of the International Cheese Awards Marquee.
  • The committee, who work all year round to plan, organise and deliver the two days of the show.
  • The 300 expert judges – it’s not easy eating your way through three or four categories of cheese at nine in the morning!
  • Our brilliant stewards, who so generously volunteer their time each year to make sure the judging goes smoothly.
  • Our celebrity chefs – James Martin, Will Holland, Sean Wilson and Jonathan Harrison – for doing such a great job in our demo kitchen and for being so friendly and approachable throughout the day.
  • All the press who attended or wrote about the show – we appreciate you spreading the word.
  • The results team for always meeting our announcement deadlines. This year saw our earliest ever announcement of Supreme Champion, at 1.34pm – no pressure for next year then!
  • Our brilliant caterers, who made sure 1,362 dairy professionals sat down on time at the Trade Day Lunch, and then provided such great service to the public on Show Day.
  • Our lovely hosts, Nantwich Agricultural Show – it really is one of the best days out of the year.
  • And last but not least, everyone who came along to the show – see you all again next year!
