International Cheese Awards Press Release August 2016: Time for our Annual Thank You List!

It’s just over a month now since the 119th International Cheese Awards took place in Nantwich, Cheshire – and it’s been business as usual for all of the cheese makers, traders and dairy industry professionals who helped make it the biggest and best show yet, although we’re guessing that celebrations are still going on in some quarters!

It’s become customary now to give praise where it’s due in a roll call of some of those individuals and companies without whom the show simply wouldn’t be the amazing event that it’s become – so here goes with our thanks for 2016. As usual, if I’ve forgotten anyone then let me know…

  • All of the cheese makers and traders who entered the awards or attended the show – ICA2016 set a new world record with an astonishing 5000 entries from 27 different countries and almost half the entries coming from overseas. Special congratulations go to Treur Kaas for scooping Supreme Champion (and the coveted National Westminster Cup) for their Jerseyhoeve Schorren aged cheese made from Jersey cow’s milk, and to Waitrose for picking up Supreme Retailer.
  • Our sponsors, who make the show possible with their generosity and support.
  • The committee, who work so hard every year, not just during July but throughout the year. A special mention needs to go to our outgoing Chairman Bruce Macdonald, who has worked tirelessly on our behalf over the last three years and even got his face on the ITN News at Ten this year!
  • Our expert judges, who rolled up their sleeves and got tasting those 5000 entries whilst most of us were still having our morning coffee.
  • All of the stewards, who volunteer their time and energy in helping our judges and making sure everything runs smoothly.
  • Our celebrity chefs – James Martin, Will Holland and Sean Wilson - for being so entertaining and approachable, and for giving us a hand with the judging!
  • All the press who attended or wrote about the show.
  • The results team for meeting our announcement deadlines whilst I was still eyeing the dessert table.
  • The International Guilde des Fromagers, for once again choosing us as a platform for welcoming new members to the guild – including James Martin.
  • The excellent caterers, who catered for huge numbers on both days with skill and good humour – including the enormous Trade Day lunch.
  • Everyone at Nantwich Agricultural Show – and all those who helped put up and dismantle our enormous cheese marquee.
  • And last but not least, the thousands upon thousands of you who visited the show!

Gearing up for ICA 2017…

Next year’s show is already in the planning stage – ICA2017 will take place on Tuesday 25th July (Trade, Judging and Press Day) and Wednesday 26th July (Show Day). We want to make the 120th show the best yet, so for more details about how to get involved as an exhibitor or a sponsor contact, or email Liz at if you’d like to attend as press.

As ever, thank you in advance for any coverage you are able to give us, and please do follow us on Twitter @icheeseawards for further news and updates!
